Respect for, and protection of the interests of research participants are fundamental to NIH’s stewardship of human genomic and associated phenotypic data. This webinar discusses requirements for accessing controlled data in the GDC, reviews how to apply for access through NIH’s Database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP), and demonstrates how authorized users can download controlled access data.
This webinar is intended for cancer researchers who are interested in downloading controlled access data made available to authorized users in the NCI Genomic Data Commons (GDC).

Access to controlled data in the GDC requires an NIH eRA Commons account and authorization through NIH’s Database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP). This webinar will discuss the requirements for accessing controlled data in the GDC, review how to apply for access through dbGaP, and demonstrate how authorized users can download controlled access data using GDC tools. A discussion of available controlled datasets and additional requirements for obtaining access to submit data will also be provided.
