GDC Data Analysis, Visualization, and Exploration (DAVE) Tools

Date: Monday, August 26, 2019
Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location: Web Conference (See WebEx information below)
Speakers:
Michael Fitzsimons, GDC Director of User Services and Outreach, University of Chicago (UChicago)
Colin Reid, GDC User Services, University of Chicago (UChicago)

This monthly support webinar helps all types of researchers utilize the cancer genomics data and resources available at NCI’s Genomic Data Commons (GDC). GDC experts will demonstrate how to find and access genomic data, how to use web-based tools, give in-depth explanations of bioinformatics pipelines, and more.

Intended Audience

This webinar is intended for cancer researchers and bioinformaticians who are interested in using the NCI Genomic Data Commons (GDC) and supporting tools to analyze data from cancer genomics studies.

Abstract

The GDC provides Data Analysis, Visualization, and Exploration (DAVE) tools for exploring data from cancer genomic studies. This webinar will provide an overview of GDC DAVE tools for exploring most frequently mutated genes and mutations, performing a survival analysis for cases with and without these mutations, viewing the distribution of particular mutations and mutated genes across the GDC, and visualizing associated transcripts in a protein viewer. This webinar will also demonstrate building a custom cohort using exploration tools and analyzing using GDC cohort comparison and set operation features.

Included Topics
  • Visualize most frequently mutated genes and view most frequent somatic mutations
  • Perform a survival analysis for cases with a mutated form of a certain gene and cases without the mutation
  • Visualize mutations and their frequencies across protein domains
  • Build custom cohorts and perform cohort comparison
