Intended Audience

This webinar is designed for researchers interested in learning about updates to the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data available in the GDC as well as TCGA resources.

Abstract

The GDC provides access to data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), a landmark cancer genomics program that molecularly characterized over 20,000 primary cancer and matched normal samples spanning 33 cancer types. Available TCGA data in the GDC includes: clinical, biospecimen, whole slide images, WGS/WXS/RNA/miRNA alignments, WGS/WXS somatic mutations, gene/isoform/miRNA expression quantification, copy number data, structural variations, methylation values, and more. In GDC Data Releases 42 and 43, TCGA clinical data that was previously available only in supplemental files including expanded treatment data were made accessible for download and querying through the GDC Data Portal resulting in a comprehensive update to TCGA clinical data and a completion to TCGA data submissions.

While TCGA data submission in the GDC have completed, TCGA data continues to be a valued resource to the community that has improved our understanding of cancer, how research is conducted, how cancer is treated in the clinic, and much more. This webinar will provide an overview of recent updates to TCGA data available in the GDC as part of final TCGA data submission and demonstrate how to access and analyze TCGA data. This webinar will also discuss resources for TCGA users such as TCGA codes, study abbreviations, standardized clinical and other data forms, and annotations.
