Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatments
Headline

TARGET is the collaborative effort of a large, diverse consortium of extramural and NCI investigators. The goal of the effort is to accelerate molecular discoveries that drive the initiation and progression of hard-to-treat childhood cancers. and facilitate rapid translation of those findings into the clinic.

Research Biography

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Genomic Data Commons (GDC) provides access to data from the Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatments (TARGET) program.

TARGET data includes data from Complete Genomics (CGI) and other platforms. Both TARGET CGI and non-CGI data are stored in the GDC. For TARGET CGI data, variant calls made using the original CGI Level 1 (raw) data are mapped to the latest common reference genome using a liftover approach. TARGET non-CGI data is harmonized using the GDC harmonization tools described in

Program Summary

TARGET is the collaborative effort of a large, diverse consortium of extramural and NCI investigators. Members of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a clinical trials group devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research, comprise the majority of TARGET project teams. COG members provide the TARGET teams access to clinical expertise and accrued tissue materials. TARGET researchers work together within and across teams to generate, analyze, integrate, and interpret high quality genomics data. The goal of working with COG in this collaborative team science arena is to accelerate molecular discoveries that drive the initiation and progression of hard-to-treat childhood cancers. and facilitate rapid translation of those findings into the clinic.

Supported Cancer Studies

TARGET is comprised of five disease-centered projects that form collaborative networks within and across project teams consisting of clinicians, pathologists and basic scientists. TARGET clinical and biological trials have strict protocols to ensure high quality research samples, including rich clinical annotation, and are the source of the tissues that are collected.
TARGET data in the GDC is available for the following disease types:
